Migraines and sick time [May. 7th, 2006|02:16 am]
My Wal-Mart, My Ass!

Ever wake up in the middle of the night with a feeling like someone is stabbing your brain? Yes, migraines aren't very fun things to have. But in case you were wondering, Wal-Mart has a policy when it comes to calling out for having a migraine.

First, as with any time you are sick, you're required to call in to call out, and to specifically catch a member of management in order to do so. Makes a certain amount of sense... excepting that the point of the manager is to attempt to badger you into coming in regardless of whether you're bleeding, vomiting, or otherwise incapable of rational thought. If you call in more than thirty minutes before your shift is scheduled to begin, they are required to instruct you to call back then, in the event that you should suffer some sort of miraculous recovery. Most amusingly, in the case of 'migraines and severe neck pain', it is apparently also regulation to instruct the associate to 'take a Tylenol and see if that helps'. Even if that person has spinal problems and has explained that this is a problem that medication is not helping.) And almost invariably, they require you to bring in a doctor's note for your ailment in order for you to use your sick time (and you never get sick time for your first day absent, either). Oh, what fun it is to be sick at Wal-Mart!

policies can be ignored

i think its just your store that has these rules. when i call in it goes like this:

me: i'm too sick to work.
manager: ok.
me: bye.

never been sick more than 5 days, and havent tried to get paid for sick time. i bet the manager you talk to thinks you're a slacker and talks about you when you're gone too. :/

Re: policies can be ignored

Quite possibly. And, admittedly, I'm not the most productive person. Thanks to that whole 'spinal damage' thing -- which I have a note on file for, as well as a very well-documented medical history for. (It put me out of work for eight months, and caused me to have to switch to a less physically demanding job.)

At least there's a slight chance that the ADA's on my side.

Re: policies can be ignored

You call off more than 3 days in a row you better be in a hospital dying. and even then a doctors excuse wont do. where do you work sounds like paradise so it cant be walmart, walmart is purgatory for us sinners who wanted a 40 hour work week minus all the abuse such as your job is what ever walmart tells you it is.so much for job preference etc. walmart didnt make number 10 on the 10 worst companies in america to work for by accident they worked real hard at getting there and want to be the very worst. wake up smell the coffee walmart is retail hell.but soon walmart will go the way of zayre, ames, wards, etc. just a matter of time after all walmart is being run by the same people that ran zayre, ames, hills, wards etc.

walmart walmart shame on you walmart

Walmart needs to realize first they need to comply with state law, state by state not just Arkansas state. next they need to realize (and it will happen)the economy is going to get much better meaning better jobs out there. then we can all tell wally world where to shove&stick it.because thats exactly what walmart wants from its employees to destroy them.they are begging for it to happen if not why act like a bunch power mad tyrants. Because they are a bunch of punks given to much power due to economic factors. Sam Walton would not have treated his employees or customers like toilet paper.but wally world managers and higher ups can&do ever chance they get.just remember what goes around will come around!Ps all managers and higher ups please where bullet proof vests to and from the store we need no dam martors

wal mart employees vs. wal mart management.

Must be the same at most walmarts across the country, If you are management you are acceptable, but if you are associates, you are pretty much unburied dog shit. It this store the manager are more busier sneaking around spying on associates than they are doing their supposed duties. It is amazing how many people get fired here and most on trumped up reasons. The manager go out of their way so they can fire someone. I had a friend that was a manager at this paticular store, he no longer works there because he couldnt abide by walmarts policies so he found a much better job. But he told me that the store had a policy that at the end of the year that the manager who had reason to fire someone with the greatest number of dismissals was given a bonus. So their you are walmart at its finest
